Activation Volume in Shear-Driven Chemical Reactions

چکیده

Interfacial shear-driven or shear-assisted chemical reactions play an important role in many engineering processes, including between lubricant additives and the surfaces of mechanical components fabrication surface topographic features. Mechanistic studies often employ a mechanically assisted thermal activation model from which so-called volume can be defined. Activation is because it quantifies efficiency interfacial shear to drive reaction. Recent advancements have enabled calculation both nano- macro-scale experiments as well simulations. However, calculated volumes differ by orders magnitude, even for same reactant species, physical interpretations vary correspondingly. Here, we review how has been measured interpreted literature with goal guiding future efforts understand use this parameter design through tribochemistry.Graphical Abstract

Shear-Induced Exothermic Chemical Reactions

The structure of controlled high-strain-rate shear bands generated in Ti-Si reactive powders has been investigated by means of the radd symmetric collapse of a thick-walled cylinder. Shear localization developed at global strains of 0.2-0.4 and a strain rate of lo4 s-I. Within the shear bands, local shear strains were up to 100 9d local shear strain rates were lo7 s-'. Chemical reactions were i...

Plasmon-driven sequential chemical reactions in an aqueous environment

Plasmon-driven sequential chemical reactions were successfully realized in an aqueous environment. In an electrochemical environment, sequential chemical reactions were driven by an applied potential and laser irradiation. Furthermore, the rate of the chemical reaction was controlled via pH, which provides indirect evidence that the hot electrons generated from plasmon decay play an important r...

Threshold activation for stochastic chemical reactions in microdomains.

The mean time to reach a threshold (MTT) is the mean first passage time for the number of bound molecules to reach a given value. In the theory of chemical reactions involving a small number of ligands and molecules, the MTT represents the first time a given number of binding sites is formed. In that context, the MTT can be used to characterize the stability of chemical processes, especially wh...

Strain-induced Structural Changes and Chemical Reactionsðii. Modelling of Reactions in Shear Band

ÐThe problem on strain-induced chemical reaction (SICR) and structural changes (SCs) in a thin layer inside the shear band is formulated and solved for large strains. It is analytically demonstrated that intense plastic deformation can accelerate chemical reactions. The phenomenon of reaction-induced plasticity (RIP), similar to transformation-induced plasticity at phase transitions is derived ...
